Boilermakers build, repair, test and maintain all types of boilers, tanks and pressure vessels and related metal products for building manufacturing and industrial processes in heavy industry. They perform structural and plate work on dust, air, gas, steam, oil, water and other liquid-tight containers.

Bricklayers work with masonry materials such as brick, concrete block, stone, structural tile and pre-cast panels to construct and repair structures like walls, partitions, patios, arches, fireplaces, chimneys and other elements. They often work on commercial, industrial and residential buildings.

Carpenters are skilled tradespeople who perform a wide range of tasks in construction. They build, install, maintain, and repair structures using wood, engineered wood, steel, concrete, drywall, and other materials. Their duties include constructing foundations, laying out beams, installing subflooring, and framing walls and partitions. They also fit windows and doors, construct stairwells and staircases, build roofs, and apply both exterior and interior finishes. In addition, carpenters install doors, door hardware, drywall systems, finish components, and access systems.

In this career, they are most often employed by elevator construction and maintenance companies. They may specialize in installation, maintenance or repair.

Heat and Frost Insulators work with more than just heating and cooling, they also help reduce the passage of sound, air, smoke and fire. They are essential to every large institutional, commercial and industrial construction project in the country, as well as residential construction.

Reinforcing Ironworkers play a critical role in building strong, durable concrete structures. They fabricate, assemble, and install reinforcing steel (rebar), wire mesh, composites, and post-tensioning systems that give concrete its strength and stability. Their work includes positioning, aligning, and securing components according to project drawings, as well as unloading and preparing steel units for safe installation. Reinforcing Ironworkers also stress and grout bars and tendons, install supporting accessories, and tie or weld components together to create the framework that ensures structures like bridges, stadiums, and high-rises are built to last.

Structural & Ornamental Ironworkers install and reinforce structural/ ornamental steel components, precast structural concrete members and glued laminate timber products in commercial, industrial, institutional and large residential buildings, towers, bridges and stadiums. They also erect pre-engineered buildings and ornamental ironwork.

Mobile Crane Operators work on cranes or draglines to lift, move, position or place machinery, equipment and other large objects. They perform pre-operational inspections, routine maintenance, and ensure compliance with safety regulations. They can work at construction or industrial sites, ports, railway yards, surface mines or other similar locations.

Painters apply a range of coatings to beautify, identify and protect interior and exterior surfaces and structures from weather, UV, chemicals, abrasion and fire. From office towers and retail stores to bridges and pipelines, a Red Seal painter does it all.

Plumbers install, remodel and maintain systems that carry water, steam, air and other liquids or gases necessary for sanitation, industrial production, heating, air conditioning and many other systems. Because they work in all kinds of industries, there are nearly endless work opportunities.

Roofers install, maintain, repair, and replace roofs using a variety of materials and methods. As part of their job, Roofers will also inspect existing roofs for repair area, weatherproof, waterproof, and damp-proof roofing surfaces, foundation surfaces, floor slabs and bridge decks. They may also install various types of flashings, drain inserts and clamps.

Sheet Metal Workers design, create, assemble, install and repair sheet metal products, including heating, venting and air conditioning systems, pollution control systems and other metal structures. They work indoors and outdoors on construction sites and in shops.

Steamfitters/Pipefitters build, assemble, maintain and repair piping systems that carry water, steam, chemicals or fuel in heating, cooling, lubricating and other process piping systems. Because of this, much of their work is industrial. They work indoors or outdoors, and the job can be physically demanding.

A Tower Crane Operator must have the ability to transport, lift and move heavy loads by using a traveling or stationary crane with extreme precision. This job requires precise control, strong communication, and strict adherence to safety protocols, and is best suited to a person who can work as part of a team, follow directions and be comfortable using giant machinery.

Welders permanently join pieces of metal by applying heat, using filler metal or fusion processes. They join parts being manufactured, build structures, repair damaged or worn parts and apply wear surfaces. They use various welding processes to join structural steel and metal in vessels, piping and other components, such as district heat, chemical plants, piping in hospitals and heating systems. They also fabricate parts, tools, machines and equipment used in the construction and manufacturing industries.
