Responsibilities

  • Mason tending (mixing mortar, material handling, scaffolding and workplace setup for masons), demolition, asbestos abatement, structural steel and prefab metal installation
  • Insulation and vapour barrier installation, waterproofing (eg Blueskin)
  • Rigging loads and assist in directing the movement of materials with tower crane operator
  • Road building, bridge and road repair, water and sewer installation and repair
  • Operate pneumatic hammers and tampers, leveling earth to grade specifications with use of laser levels
  • Landscaping
  • Direct traffic at or near construction sites
  • Assist heavy equipment operators in securing and guiding the movement of equipment
  • Material handling, including operating forklift and telehandler, skid steer etc
  • Job site cleanup and organizing materials to keep workspace free of hazards

Entering the Trade

  • Total Required Apprenticeship Hours: 4,000
  • Total Hours Required to Challenge Exam as a Trade Qualifier: 5,400

Hourly Pay

$33.24 – $40.11/hr total package (based on 2025 collective agreement)

Labourer less than 4000hrs – $33.24/hr total package
Skilled Labourer – $36.78/hr total package
Asbestos Worker & Masonry Helper – $40.11/hr total package

Total wage includes pension contributions of up to $5.62/hr, and health benefits contributions paid by employer.
