Carpenters are skilled tradespeople who perform a wide range of tasks in construction. They build, install, maintain, and repair structures using wood, engineered wood, steel, concrete, drywall, and other materials. Their duties include constructing foundations, laying out beams, installing subflooring, and framing walls and partitions. They also fit windows and doors, construct stairwells and staircases, build roofs, and apply both exterior and interior finishes. In addition, carpenters install doors, door hardware, drywall systems, finish components, and access systems.

Responsibilities
- Read and interpret blueprints and drawings
- Calculate requirements and prepare layouts to follow building codes
- Measure, cut, shape and assemble materials
- Build foundations, framework and concrete forms such as tunnels and bridges
- Fit and install windows, doors, flooring, walls, stairs, roof systems, mouldings and hardware
- Maintain, repair and renovate residences and wooden structures
